According to *Constructionweekonline news report, American engineering giant Aecom confirmed it had been awarded a project management consultancy (PMC) contract for Saudi Arabia's $500bn (SAR1.9tn) Neom gigaproject, which is being developed with the backing of the Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman-chaired Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Aecom said its multi-year contract covered Phase 1 and was part of Neom Bay, which is being developed in North West Saudi Arabia within the Neom Zone.

Located in Saudi Arabia's far north-west at the intersection with Jordan and Egypt, Neom will be a special economic zone, and Neom Zone spans 26,000km2.

Aecom said it had been contracted to provide project management, contract administration, technical and environmental support, and site supervision services for the design and construction of Phase 1 of the 45km2 Neom Bay.

Phase 1 of Neom Bay will feature residential, leisure, retail, commercial, and entertainment units.

Commenting on the contract, Aecom Arabia's president and chief executive officer, Ian Laski, said: “We are delighted that Neom has chosen Aecom to drive the delivery of this significant project.

“The award is testament to our integrated offer, global reach and local knowledge, as well as strong leadership commitment globally to pursue large programmes of work in Saudi Arabia.”

Aecom Middle East and Africa's chief executive, Hamed Zaghw, said the award would build on the consultancy's relationship with PIF.

Zaghw added: “We look forward to building a long-term relationship with PIF that delivers ambitious projects across Saudi Arabia and enables the achievement of Vision 2030.”
