Consortia including Kharafi National and Limak Holding wins US$ 4.8 bn Kuwait airport deal

A consortium of Kharafi National, Kuwait’s leading construction firm, and Turkey’s Limak Holding has been awarded a US$ 4.8 billion (KD 1.4 billion) contract to expand the country’s international airport. The central tenders committee announced the award on its website, according to news reports on Construction Week Online.


It is understood other bidders for the work included China State Construction Engineering Corporation and UAE-based Arabtec. Under the contract, a new terminal for Kuwait International Airport and a new runway will be built in addition to around 30 gates to boost the facility's capacity from the current seven million passengers to 13 million in 2016.

The capacity is slated to increase to 25 million passengers by 2025.
