Construction of Nigeria's modular refinery now 65% complete

According to *Constructionreviewonline news report, construction of a modular refinery in Nigeria has reached 65% ahead of the original schedule with operations slated to commence in the second quarter of 2020.

The Executive Secretary of Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Simbi Kesiye Wabote, and the Director of Finance and Personnel Management, Isaac Yalah confirmed the reports during an inspection visit at the the project site in Ibigwe, Imo State.

The refinery is being developed by Waltersmith Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited, and has an equity investment support from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

Modular refinery

Giving his assessment after touring the project site, Wabote described the project as an investment channeled in the right direction. He hailed the contractors-Lambert Electromac and Zerock for their remarkable pace of execution, dedication and expertise, noting that they continued with the project despite the onset of the rainy season.

Wabote pointed out that engineering and procurement components had also been completed and installation stage was expected to take four weeks when it begins in October 2019. The project is estimated to produce 5,000 barrels per day upon fully completion.

In line with the requirements of the succession plan requirements of the Nigerian Content Act, Wabote charged the contractors to train and absorb more Nigerians in senior management positions and make them permanent members of their companies, even after the project phase.

Wabote, conducted the site inspection alongside the director of finance and personnel management, Mr. Isaac Yalah, in company of the chairman of Waltersmith, Mr. Abdulrasaq Isah, and the executive vice-chairman, Mr. Danjuma Sale at Ibigwe, Imo State.
