Kuwait raises oil output capacity

Kuwait has increased its oil production capacity to 3.3 million barrels of oil a day (bpd) and is hoping to reach 3.5m bpd in 2015, the head of its state oil company said on Monday. Kuwaiti officials have previously said that capacity was around 3.1-3.2m bpd.[..]

Saudi Arabia begins construction of US$22.5 Billion Riyadh metro project

Saudi Arabia has begun construction work on its long awaited first metro rail system in the capital Riyadh. The US$22.5 billion project will involve construction of six rail lines extending 176 kilometers and carrying electric, driverless trains, in what Saudi officials project to be the world's largest public transport system. The project is expected to be completed in 2019.[..]

Diyar Al Muharraq and ARKIS signed agreement to build school

Gulf Daily News reported that Abdulrahman Kanoo International School (ARKIS) has signed an agreement with urban developer Diyar Al Muharraq for building a school within the master-planned project.  For the signing of land purchase agreement, Diyar Al Muharraq was represented by chairman Abdulhakim Alkhayyat, managing director Aaref Hejres and chief executive Dr Maher Al Shaer while ARKIS was represented by board member Tariq bin Abdul Latif Kanoo, along with Mubarak Atwi, Abdul Samad Abu Baker and Sunil Raj.[..]

Dhs.100 Million medical research centre launched in Dubai

Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has launched the Dhs.100 Million Al Jalila Medical Research Centre, the first indepdendent centre of its kind in the country. The centre will focus its efforts on five diseases common in UAE — diabetes, obesity, cardio-vascular diseases, malignant tumours as well as mental diseases. Shaikh Mohammed viewed a presentation on Al Jalila Foundation’s achievements, vision and mission and future plans inspired by the visions of Shaikh Mohammed and UAE Vision 2021. Shaikh Mohammed also viewed the designs and plans of the 10-storey green building of Al Jalila Medical Research Centre. Giving his blessing to the new project, Sheikh Mohammed emphasised the importance of promoting the culture of research and studies in all disciplines in order to advance healthcare sector, sustainability and the welfare of patients. He also stressed on the need to promote health and well-being of people and to help all patients recover. Sheikh Mohammed also noted that the well-being of society can only be achieved when it is free of these dangerous diseases. Along with praising the efforts of the employees of Al Jalila Foundation and the generousity of donors, Sheikh Mohammed expressed hope that the new facility will be a regional and global research centre that can match internationally-acclaimed research centres in terms of expertise and reputation.
