Hyflux, a global integrated water and power solutions provider based in Singapore, said it has won a OMR 100 million ($260 million) contract from Oman Power and Water Procurement Company to develop an independent water project at Qurayyat area of Oman.
With a designed capacity of 200,000 cubic meters per day, Qurayyat IWP will be one of the largest seawater desalination plants in Oman.
As per the contract, Hyflux will provide turnkey engineering services, procurement and construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance of the plant.
A leading provider of environmental solutions with operations and projects in Singapore, Southeast Asia, China, India, Algeria, the Middle East and North Africa, Hylux said the plant will be designed to minimise impact on the marine and coastal ecology.
Emphasis will also be placed on architecture and landscaping that builds on the intrinsic qualities of the natural surroundings and enhances the existing site, said the Singapore-based company.
Scheduled to commence commercial operation by May 2017 for a period of 20 years, Qurayyat IWP will supply approximately 17 per cent of Oman’s peak water demand.
