Lusail’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) project will be connected to Doha Metro’s Red Line, the managing director of Qatar Rail has said. LRT project will connect to Doha Metro via two stations, Lusail Marina/the Pearl and Lusail’s main station, Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie said during a briefing to the Minister of Transport, Jassim Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, who was conducting an inspection to the LRT project sites in Lusail.

Al Subaie added that the connectivity would help facilitate transportation for residents from and into Lusail City. He said that the LRT project would consist of four operating lines totalling 33 km of network and 37 stations, including 10 underground.

“Over 7 km of the tunnels have been completed, along with the main civil works of seven underground stations. We have completed excavation works, 98% of structure work (is done) for the underground stations and the bridge that crosses over Al Khor Highway. Work is underway to implement the final phase of the project, which includes the rolling stock systems,” he added.

The LRT system aims to provide Lusail with an efficient commuting system for its future inhabitants. The development of the city on the waterfront, north of Doha, will extend over 35 square km and will house more than 50,000 residents.

The Minister of Transport also inspected the tunnels and went along 4km of underground trace and four underground stations. Jassim Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti also checked on a viaduct crossing over Al Khor Highway. The bridge will allow the LRT network to join train storage and maintenance facilities in front of Lusail, which is on the west side of the highway, a report in the Peninsula added.

“The next stage of the project would see the delivery of 37 stations’ civil works, internal architecture, mechanical and electrical equipment, the track, power supply, maintenance facilities and trains,” Qatar Rail CEO, Engineer Saad Al Muhannadi, said.
