Posted on 20th April 2015

Developer Majid Al Futtaim has held a ceremony involving schoolchildren burying a capsule at the site of its new City Centre Me'asiem community mall.

The mall, which will be based in Dubai's International Media Production Zone (IMPZ), will be the company's sixth City Centre mall in the UAE and its ninth in the wider region.

The firm has invested AED 275 million (US$ 75 million) in the building, which is at the intersection between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road close to Victory Heights, Jumeirah Golf Estates and Jumeirah Village.

It will contain a Carrefour mall, Magic Planet entertainment centre and a City Centre Clinic. Around 2,850 tonnes of steel have been used in its construction, as well as 49,370 tonnes of concrete. It is being built by contractor Brookfield Multiplex. It is due to open by the end of this year.

The time capsule was laid by students of the nearby Bradenton Preparatory School and will be uncovered in ten years.

Ali Al Abdulla, senior director of communities and neighbourhood malls development for Majid Al Futtaim Properties, said: "City Centre Me’aisem has been created to serve the expanding residential, academic and commercial areas within Dubai.”
