According to *Constructionweekonline news report, American contractor McDermott has been picked to deliver front-end engineering design (Feed) services on design-competition basis for Phase 1 of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s (Adnoc) Umm Shaif Gas Cap Condensate Development project in Abu Dhabi, with the offshore contract also including the submission of an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) proposal for the scheme.

In a statement, the Houston, Texas-headquartered builder said its ‘sizeable’ contract – which McDermott defines as having a value of $1m to $50m – was reflected in its Q1 2019 backlog.

McDermott’s London office will implement the project’s Feed scope, with support from its offices in Dubai and Chennai, India.

The company's scope of work also includes the preparation and submission of an EPCI proposal "reflecting the design of the offshore facilities developed by McDermott through this Feed work".

Work on the project is due to commence immediately, the contractor said in a statement.

Commenting on the contract win, McDermott’s senior vice president for the Mena region, Linh Austin, said: “This award reflects the market's recognition that McDermott is well qualified to provide execution-focused engineering design services to clients.

“Our extensive EPCI experience allows us to deliver technically robust engineering design to clients as a 'one-stop-shop' on a global scale."

One of the busiest construction contractors in the Middle East, McDermott is already working on several Adnoc projects, including the UAE energy giant’s Ruwais Refinery.

The American contractor’s clientele also includes Saudi Aramco – with which it is collaborating on projects in Marjan and Ras Al Khair – as well as Kuwait’s Kipic, which recently awarded the company a technology contract for the Al Zour energy complex.
