MEP Awards : KEO wins consultant of the year

KEO International Consultants has won MEP Consultant of the Year for the first ever at the MEP Middle East Awards 2014, held on Wednesday 26 November at Sofitel The Palm Resort & Spa in Dubai.
The consultant unseated Atkins – which had won the award in each of the event’s seven previous instalments – beating off competition from category finalists Arab Engineering Bureau, Hilson Moran, Hyder Consulting, Ramboll, and Ted Jacob Engineering Group.
Raef Hammoudeh, director - MEP engineering and Darrel Strobel, managing director, accepted the award, according to news reports on Construction Week Online.
Strobel said: "This is the big one so we're excited, we're ecstatic. We're thrilled."
KEO was praised by the judges for its work on “iconic projects with creative usage of technologies and techniques” whose “resources have been significantly increased with good coordination between its regional offices”.
They also commended the company on being a “world-leading organisation in design and supervision”, and was ranked ahead of the competition for the “scope and scale of the projects” in which it is involved.
Hammoudeh added: "We're delighted. We have some fantastic people, good projects and we look after our clients and people. KEO is a special company. It's a big company but it's a people company. All the people that work in it are a family."
Hyder Consulting was highly commended in the category with the judges praising its “rich local experience, ensuring the client and architect’s clear visions are interpreted into sound detail”, and its work on “out-of-the-box projects like Dubai Frame”.
An independent panel of 12 judges voted for the 2014 MEP Middle East Awards made up of industry professionals from across the GCC and throughout the construction sector.
This year’s Platinum Sponsor for the event was du.
