Specifically, it will help BP and its partners China National Petroleum Company, Rumaila Operations Organisation and state-owned South Oil Company, to safely increase production at what is one of the world's largest oil fields. The contract runs for three years, with an option to extend for another two years and has a potential value of up to US$ 500 million.

It will provide overall management and co-ordination of multiple construction projects, including construction management and supervision of work undertaken by third party contractors on the field, 32 kilometers from the Kuwaiti border.

Mani Rajapathy, regional senior vice-president for Petrofac, said: “The award builds on an established track record for Petrofac in Iraq, in particular at Rumaila, dating back to 2011. We look forward to sharing in the continued success of the regeneration of Rumaila.”

Petrofac also announced a US$ 120 million deal with Chevron to support three platforms in the North Sea, according to news reports on ConstructionWeek Online.
