The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a $109 million (AED404m) contract for upgrading the roads surrounding Dubai International Airport.
The major road development plan aims to ease traffic congestion on Airport Road, according to Constructionweekonline news report.
Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said the development would help cater for the projected growth in the number of travellers through Dubai International Airport - which is expected to serve 92 million by 2020.
He said: “The RTA is proceeding with the upgrading of the infrastructure of road networks and mass transit systems in Dubai emirate, and figuring out integrated solutions for land and marine transit systems that are safe for users, compatible with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2021, responding to the needs of hosting Expo 2020 and demographic growth.”
The project, which is expected to be completed by 2017, will include the construction of a service road and flyover - as well as various tunnels and bridges.Back to all Construction News
