Sharjah emirate’s first IPP moves to EPC stage

The emirate of Sharjah has become the latest entrant to the UAE’s privatization drive of its power sector with the Hamariyah IPP securing US$1 billion of financing and also awarding the EPC contract to Spain’s Tecnicas Reunidas in partnership with GE. The developer consortium for the 1.8GW independent power plant is led by GE and Sumitomo Corporation. The project was initially tendered as an EPC contract during late 2015 before it was decided to be develop with private sector participation. ILF Consulting Engineers was the technical advisor on the project.
