SNC-Lavalin has said that its subsidiary, SNC-Lavalin Gulf Contractors (SLGC), has been awarded a US$ 37 million deal from district cooling provider Tabreed to build the main plant for the new Dubai Parks & Resorts complex in Jebel Ali.

SLGC will provide design, procurement, build and commissioning services for a district cooling plant with an initial capacity of 25,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT) and an ultimate capacity of 35,000 RT.

Tabreed was awarded the deal to provide district cooling at the complex, which will contain several theme parks including a new Legoland Dubai, Bollywood Parks and a Motiongate complex, last month.

SLGC said that it has already completed nearly 40 district cooling plants, primarily in the Middle East.  Hisham Mahmoud, SNC Lavalin Group's president of infrastructure, said: "We are pleased with the opportunity to leverage our significant experience and expertise in this sector to help one of the United Arab Emirate's leading district cooling utility infrastructure companies efficiently meet the demand for cooling, while reducing their energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions."

SNC Lavalin recently completed a US$ 2.1 billion takeover of engineering group Kentz, which is an oil & gas specialist with a significant regional presence.
