Sohar Industrial Estate enters its seventh phase

Sohar Industrial Estate (SIE) has laid the foundation stone for a project to develop its seventh phase.
Eng. Abdul Qadir Bin Salim Al Balushi, director general of SIE, said that the area allocated for the zone increased from 3.3 million square meters to 21.5 million square meters. The number of projects also went up from eight at the beginning of its inception to 239 involved in various activities of different nature including food industry, steel industries, chemical industries, building materials, mining industries and others, according to news reports on Construction Week Online.
The size of investment in the region so far stands at more than OMR 1.75 illion and the number of workers in these projects is over 12,100. The percentage of nationals in the employed staff is 36%.
The area of the seventh stage is 8.5 million square meters. The project has been assigned to Hassan Juma Backar Company under a OMR 19 million (US$ 49.3 million), 18-month contract. Land has been allocated to 15 projects.
