MEP contractor Habtoor Leighton Specon (HLS) has announced its winning of three contracts worth a total of US$ 47 million (AED 174 million). HLSprojects

HLS has been appointed under a contract of US$ 26.7 million (OMR 10.3 million) by Leighton Middle East, the Habtoor Leighton Group’s (HLG) Omani arm, to execute the complete MEP project on a hotel at the Saraya Bandar Jissah complex near Muscat. The scope of works on the five-star, 206-room hotel includes fire fighting, extra low voltage and fuel handling systems.[..]

Mace has been appointed as the project and cost manager for the iconic Oman Cultural Complex (OCC) in Muscat. The OCC will host three major buildings of national interest, namely, the National Library with a capacity to host 5 million volumes; the National Archives which will act as a four-storey exhibition, public event area and a research and administration wing; and the National Theater which will be able to accommodate more than 1,000 people.[..]

Abu Dhabi's Ferrari World announces expansion plans

Ferrari World has announced plans to open seven more rides over the next three years, which they say will increase the capacity of the theme park by 40%. With Yas Mall due to open around the time of the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this year, visitor numbers at the venue are expected to rise, according to Jesse Vargas, speaking at a media briefing this week. Vargas, who took over as the theme park’s general manager in February, said construction of the new rides will start by the end of the year. There are also plans to extend three of its existing 20 rides and to increase the number of restaurants.[..]

The Technology Development Committee (TDC) of Abu Dhabi has launched a new state- of- the- art science center dedicated to informal science education in Abu Dhabi named Abu Dhabi Science Center (ADSC) spread over an area of 6500 square metres in Masdar City.abu-dhabi-science-centre-masdar-city-373001 The design phase of the new centre is now complete, and the construction stage is set to begin, with the centre due to officially open in the second half of 2016. The initiative is part of TDC's efforts to establish a vibrant science, technology, and innovation (STI) base in the Emirate following global practices in science popularsation, aimed at inspiring youth towards STI education and careers. Seven themed galleries featuring over 200 interactive exhibits and 120 educational programs have been designed for children ages 6-11, and developed to support and enhance the ADSC visitor experience. Opportunities for participating in gallery walks, taking part in hands-on laboratory experiments, and spending a school holiday week in science day camp or a Saturday in a science club are all part of an extensive program menu that will be available to children. Featuring a 12 metre domed, 75 seat planetarium and space exploration simulator, the Universe and Planetarium Gallery links today s space and planetary sciences to the history of the region. Sponsored by Mubadala, as part of its commitment to prepare today's youth for the vital role they will play in the UAE's economic and social development, this gallery showcases 20 exhibits that help visitors understand our solar system, the lunar calendar, the changing of seasons as well as the physical properties of asteroids, comets and stars including our own sun.[..]
