Shams 1 Pushes up UAE to Number Three in Global Solar Power Capacity, Investment Rankings

secAccording to a recent report released by REN21, an international multi-policy stakeholder network that promotes a rapid global transition to renewable energy, the Masdar Shams 1 Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant in Abu Dhabi has helped push up the global rankings of the country both in terms of CSP technology investment and CSP capacity, ranking it third behind Spain and the United States and is followed by India and China at four and five in rankings. Shams 1 is the largest renewable energy project in the Middle East and opened in March 2013, a US$ 600 million project implemented in partnership between Masdar, Total and Abengoa over a 2.5 kilometre facility that produces enough electricity to power the Abu Dhabi grid.[..]

Early in 2013, Qatar hired Amsterdam Arena and New York based IMG as stadium Stadium Constructionoperations consultants for the FIFA World Cup 2022. Qatar’s World Cup bid states it would spend about $4bn on stadiums, including expanding three existing venues and building nine new state-of- the-art stadiums with capacities of at least 43,000 each. Qatar is however, not the only country in the region where there are stadium projects or similar sports facilities being planned or underway.
