Kier Group, the UK-based construction group, said on Monday it has secured several new contracts in the Gulf region totalling £145 million (US$ 220 million).

The company said in a statement that it has been named preferred bidder for a £100 million (US$ 150.72 million) mixed-use development in Dubai, as well as two infrastructure contracts totalling £15 million (US$ 22.61 million) on a major new leisure park project for the region.

In Saudi Arabia, Kier said it has also secured a £30 million (US$ 45.22 million) infrastructure project with a leading Saudi state-owned company in the eastern region. Work on all projects is expected to start this month.

"These contract wins build on substantial growth in Kier’s international business. In the last 12 months Kier has doubled its revenue and secured other prestigious projects in the Middle East for clients in the finance, leisure and education sectors," the company said.

This includes a £105 million joint venture for a spa and hotel in Abu Dhabi, the £87 million(US$ 131.26 million) joint venture with Mercury to build a new data centre for UAE bank, the £47 million (US$ 70.83 million) Dubai Parks project and a £26 million (US$ 39.19 million) project for Dubai University.

Haydn Mursell, Kier chief executive, said: “These international awards are testimony to the strong relationships that we continue to develop with customers in the Middle East and the breadth of construction capability that we can offer customers in this market.”
