GCC Mega Projects

The value of mega projects either planned or under construction in the GCC region is now estimated to be over $2 trillion. The slowdown in new mega project announcements has continued since 2019, but the pipeline of projects is still large. The focus of mega projects is now shifting towards sustainability and innovation.

However, the mega projects announced in the last few years present a wide array of opportunities to the industry participants especially in the Buildings, Manufacturing and Infrastructure sectors. These massive developments will create significantly advanced tourist attractions, residential and mixed-use areas, sports and entertainment venues, educational, financial and healthcare facilities.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia remain the two largest markets for mega construction projects in the GCC.With over $650 billion of projects planned or in progress, the UAE has established itself as a major player in regional investment. Following closely behind Saudi Arabia, it is now second only to its neighbor for large-scale project opportunities and economic development initiatives.

Saudi Arabia is taking the future of sustainable development into its own, embarking on an ambitious $500 billion megacities project that spreads 26,500 sq. kilometers along its Red Sea coast.
