The category also provided a “Highly Commended” nomination for Arabian MEP Contracting in a category which included finalists ALEMCO, AE Arma Elektropanc, ANEL, Drake & Scull and Trans Gulf, according to news reports on Construction Week Online.

Speaking to MEP Middle East immediately after the win, ETA Engineering CEO Shaukat Ali Mir said: "It’s great to win this award. It’s a lovely feeling, especially because of all the efforts that have gone into it. I would compliment the judges because they have given a lot of weight to diversity, scale, magnitude, complexities – and that’s why we think we’re the winner. So, thanks to the judges."

ETA Engineering was praised by the judges for the “impressive profile and scale of the projects it has been working on across the GCC”, while other judges commented on “the diversity, economic value, time of execution, and consideration of staff and workers on these projects.”

Commenting on why he thinks his company was placed ahead of the competition, Ali Mir said: "It’s a question of organisational strength, track record, managing processes in the organisation, resource build-up, managing resources, great engineering skills that an organisation needs to have - so it’s all rolled into one.

"As you can imagine a project like a hospital or the airport that we finished one year ago - which is Concourse 3 [at Dubai International Airport] - or the [Dubai] metro project that we finished three years back, these are all high-scale, AED2bn each, and there is no organisation in the world, in my opinion, that has taken such scale of projects in one country without a joint venture. This is unmatched. I think the judges have clearly given this a thought,

"There is no contractor that is close to ETA. There is a huge gap, I would imagine. ETA has been here the last 35 years. A lot of the iconic structures [in the UAE], ETA has been involved one way or the other," he added.

This year’s Platinum Sponsor for the event was du. Viessmann and Elemec were Gold Sponsors, ALEMCO, Amtech and Leminar Air Conditioning Silver Sponsors, while Hyder Consulting, Refrigeration Industries Coolex, SKM Air Conditioning and Ecotherm Contracting were Category Sponsors.
