Bahrain signs an agreement to develop a solar power project

In Bahrain, Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidain, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs of Bahrain, has signed an agreement to develop a 72MW solar power project in Sakhir which will be the country’s largest solar facility. The project will include a number of components, including rooftop and ground-mounted solar panels.

Saudi Electricity Company awards a new contract

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has awarded a contract for the construction of a NEOM Mountain BSP substation to Al Gihaz Contracting Company. The contract, valued $198.3 million, includes the construction of a new indoor 380/132kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) within the NEOM facility in the Kingdom.

DEWA partners with Masdar

In UAE, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has selected Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to build and operate the 1,800 megawatt (MW) sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai with an estimated cost of up to US$1.5 bn.

The Abu Dhabi renewable energy firm bid 1.62154 cents per kilowatt-hour for the solar power plant using photovoltaic (PV) solar panels based on the independent power producer (IPP) model.

ACWA Power won US$914mn contract

Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power emerged as the Preferred Bidder for the construction and operation of the 180 Million Imperial Gallon per Day (MIGD) Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Hassyan Phase 1 Independent Water Producer (IWP) project in Dubai with an investment of US$914 million.

ORA Developers builds a smart city in Abu Dhabi

ORA Developers, who owns a portfolio of prestigious projects around the world, announced its entry into UAE with a 20-million-square-metre smart city in Abu Dhabi’s Ghantoot area in partnership with Abu Dhabi investment company Q Holding.

Hailed to be the largest real estate development in the UAE’s private sector, the mixed-use development will comprise residential properties, hotel accommodations, commercial units and cultural, sporting and recreational facilities.

OERC invites bidders for a tender to build stations

The Oman and Etihad Rail Company (OERC), which is developing a 303km railway from Sohar in Oman to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, has invited bidders to prequalify for a tender to build stations, freight facilities and a rolling stock maintenance depot. Prequalification documents are available for purchase online until August 27.

MEVAC awards a contract to Korra Energi

In Egypt, Korra Energi was awarded a contract by MEVAC to build three factories for veterinary vaccines. The MEVAC factories project includes three buildings.

The first will focus on producing avian influenza vaccines, the second will be the pioneering hub for genetically engineered vaccines catering to the livestock and poultry sectors and the third building will serve as a dedicated research and development centre.
