Top Abu Dhabi Construction Projects Expected in 2026
As 2026 enters its final quarter, the UAE construction market remains one of the most active in the region. The country’s total active construction pipeline is valued at over US 900 billion,and contractor awards for 2026 are projected at close to US 96 billion. Abu Dhabi accounts for a large share of this activity, supported by sustained government spending, ADNOC’s long-term energy strategy and strong demand for new residential communities.
In Abu Dhabi, investment is spread across energy, utilities and real estate. ADNOC is advancing major gas and LNG projects to expand production and exports, while developers such as Aldar and Sobha Realty are launching large waterfront masterplans to meet growing residential demand. Many of these projects have moved beyond the award stage and into active construction, creating opportunities for contractors, consultants and suppliers through the rest of 2026 and into 2027.
Below are five of the most significant Abu Dhabi construction projects progressing in 2026.
Hail and Ghasha Sour Gas Development
The Hail and Ghasha Sour Gas Development is one of the largest upstream projects ADNOC is currently developing.
The project’s infrastructure requirements are extensive, calling for a minimum of 11 offshore artificial islands to be designed and constructed, along with drilling services, reclamation works, and ground levelling activities.
Al Fahid Island
Al Fahid Island is a major waterfront residential development by Aldar Properties, being built on a 3.4 million sq. m. island located between Yas Island and Saadiyat Island. The project has a gross development value of around US$10.9 billion and is planned to deliver more than 6,000 homes, including apartments, townhouses and villas.
Core infrastructure and bridges are targeted for completion in the first quarter of 2029. The first residential phase, Fahid Beach Residences, includes 455 units across seven buildings.
Sobha City in Al Bahiya
Sobha City is a master-planned waterfront residential community taking shape in Al Bahiya, positioned near Zayed International Airport and Yas Island.
The project is designed as a fully integrated city within a city, combining waterfront apartments, villas, and luxury mansions within a low-density, nature-led environment.
Ruwais LNG Growth Project
The Ruwais LNG Growth Project will significantly expand the UAE’s liquefied natural gas export capacity.
The project is expected to roughly double national LNG production capacity, from 6 million tonnes per annum to around 15 million tonnes per annum, and will be the first LNG export facility in the region to run on clean power.
Project Wave (Mirfa and Al Nouf Seawater Plants)
Project Wave covers the construction of two seawater treatment plants, one in Mirfa and another in Al Nouf, previously known as Dabbiya. The plants will supply treated seawater for injection into ADNOC’s onshore oil reservoirs, including the Bab and Bu Hasa fields, helping to reduce the energy used in water injection.
The first phase at Mirfa has a capacity of 115 million imperial gallons per day and reached financial close in September 2023, with a value of around US$2.2 billion. It is being developed by a consortium of Orascom Construction and Metito. The Al Nouf plant forms the second phase of the project.
Backed by a Strong Construction Pipeline
These projects reflect the breadth of Abu Dhabi’s development activity heading into 2026, spanning energy, water infrastructure, and large-scale residential masterplanning. With the UAE’s total active construction pipeline valued at over US$900 billion and contractor awards for 2026 projected at close to US$96 billion, Abu Dhabi is set to remain a key driver of construction activity across the country in the year ahead.
