Since the past couple of years, the focus in GCC Infrastructure sector is Rail sector projects. There has been a lot of activity in the rail sector and 2013 alone witness contracts worth over US$30 billion awarded to contractors for the rail projects. But at the same time, we cannot ignore the potential offered by the roads and bridges projects which has been one sector where there has been continuous activity even during the slow years when there was less activity in the real estate sector. In 2013 till date over 200 roads and bridges projects has been announced in the GCC Countries of UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain.[..]

8th October 2013Dubai developer Nakheel will restart work on part of one of the three palm-shaped islands that came to symbolise the excesses of the emirate's boom years, the company chairman said, in a sign Dubai is bouncing back from its financial crisis, reported Reuters.
Nakheel will change the manmade island group's name to Deira Island from Palm Deira, chairman Ali Rashid Lootah told reporters on the sidelines of Dubai's property exhibition show Cityscape.[..]
1st October 2013The five major things we expect to see in the UAE Construction Industry in October 2013 are the following:
- Cityscape Global is usually a platform used by major developers to announce new major real estate projects. With already a high optimism in the air, at 2013 Cityscape Global, scheduled to take place from 8th till10th October 2013, we expect to witness some good project launches.
- Al Habtoor Group will unveil what it calls “the biggest residential and hospitality development in the world under construction” on October 7. The project will be the group’s biggest project.
- Union Properties announced that it plans to launch six property projects worth Dh1.5 billion. We are excited to hear this from UP who is making such an announcement after a long break and we hope to hear more on their projects in October.
- Few major projects lined up to be out for tender for main construction contract including Nakheel Mall and Hotel in Jumeirah Palm Island
- Few major contracts lined up to be awarded to contractors including New Hospital in Al Ain.

The total value of projects awarded to EPC/main contractors totaled over US$14 Billion during the period January to August 2013 in the 6 GCC Countries. Upper Zakum Production Facilities - Crude Processing Facilities, Sarb Oil Field - Package 4 - Main Processing Plant, Umm Al Lulu Full Field Development - Package 2, all from UAE, Condensate Refinery at Ras Laffan, Qatar - Phase 2, Sulphur Handling Facilities at Mina Al Ahmadi, Kuwait were the major projects awarded to EPC Contractors during the period.[..]

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) is a major component of MEP services market especially in UAE due to the country’s extreme climatic conditions. In the recent period, UAE HVAC sector faced a setback during the economic crisis since many projects were put on-hold in the region. However, during the post-recession, UAE started contributing towards increased opportunities and market revenues in the mechanical sector, spurred by a rapid increase in its construction activities. UAE HVAC market for new building projects is estimated at USD 1,087.1 Million in 2012 and has positive growth forecasted for the next couple of years. A number of significant projects are expected to start in 2013 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai which will drive the building sector growth in recent years.[..]

The total value of Hospital projects in the GCC region is valued at close to US$50 billion as of August 2013. This includes Hospital projects in all stages – planned, design, tender for construction, under construction and also on hold projects.
