Dewa releases construction tender for 900 MW Phase 5 MBR Solar Park
Posted on 6th March 2019
According to *Constructionweekonline news report, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has released a construction tender for the 900 MW Phase 5 of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park), which will feature photovoltaic (PV) solar panels under the independent power project (IPP) model.
Set for phased-commissioning from Q2 2021, the project will see developers called on for building and operation work under a request for qualification issued by Dewa.
MBR Solar Park’s fifth phase follows four stages that offer a combined energy output of 1,963 MW, with the 13 MW-Phase 1 and 200 MW-Phase 2 respectively operational since 2013 and 2017.
MBR Solar Park’s 800 MW will commence operations “by 2020”. The fourth phase – also the world’s largest single-sit concentrated solar park development based on the IPP model – will require a total investment of $4.3bn (AED16bn). MBR Solar Park’s hybrid Phase 4 will include 600 MW of parabolic basin complex; a 100 MW solar tower; and 250 MW of PV panels.
The 100 MW solar tower will also hit a world record – at 260m, it will be the world’s largest structure of its kind, and have the record-hitting thermal storage capacity of 15 hours.
Commenting on the project, Dewa’s managing director and chief executive officer, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said MBR Solar Park would support the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, as well as the emirate’s Eight Principles of Governance and the 50-Year-Charter.
“This ensures energy supplies to meet growing demand in Dubai and enhance the shift toward green economy by increasing its share of clean energy,” Al Tayer added.
