Halcrow, a CH2M HILL company, has been awarded a contract by Al Ain City Municipality to carry out a feasibility study and concept design for a new dual carriageway road between Sarooj and Sanaiya areas of Al Ain.

The main objective of the study is to provide an alternative route between the two areas and reduce the commuting time between them. The study will also look at ways of improving the connectivity to adjacent centres and onward connections to the Oman border.

Work will include feasibility studies on complex mountain crossing and Wadi crossing structures. according to news reports on Construction Week Online.

Adnan Hashmi, CH2M HILL’s project director, said: “This win clearly shows the client’s trust in our ability to deliver challenging and complex designs. The mountain crossing will be one of the focus points of the feasibility and concept design as it comprises the most technically challenging aspect of the route. The concept for the mountain crossing needs to consider the most suitable construction methods and sustainable solutions to drive the design towards achieving the municipality’s sustainability targets.”

David Stader, CH2M HILL’s regional market manager for transportation, added: “CH2M HILL is all about turning complex challenges into opportunities. This win demonstrates the unique technical skills CH2M HILL offers its clients in the region. Al Ain Municipality continues to be a highly valued client and partner to our firm and this project will help build an improved corridor connecting local communities.”
