The first phase of the SR 25 million (US$ 6.6 million) Sama Abha project is set to start, as Asir Mayor Ibrahim Khalil scrutinises bids for the contract, according to a report.

The 17 million-square meter project will include a plane restaurant, a hotel, kiosks, green areas and family seating areas, said the Arab News report.

Khalil said the first phase of the Fog Walkway project has been completed. It is 2 km in length and 14 meters in width. Its second phase is under way whereas its four phases are expected to be completed in two years.

He added that the airport garden project will be completed in 45 days. He said the municipality and the General Authority for Civil Aviation were careful in selecting a location of scenic beauty for the 125,000 square meter garden. The garden has a 42,000 square meter green surface and 750 square meter is set apart for children’s games. A large water fountain is constructed on the middle of the garden, which has a number of walkways and women’s sitting areas shaded with umbrellas.

A unique feature of the garden is a 260-meter-long stream with three beautifully designed wooden bridges across it. Utilities at the garden include a 380 square meter mosque, two cafeterias and car parks with a capacity for 560 cars and three toilets. The total cost of the garden is estimated at SR 28 million.
