A US$ 20 million public aquarium is set to be built in Oman, according to news reports.

Australian company Advanced Aquarium Technologies is behind the plans for the Sultanate, according to news reports in Construction Week Online.

The aquarium will be located in a large shopping mall complex in the capital city, Muscat, span three floors and contain 5000 square meters of exhibits.

Business development manager Zac Gill said the job of designing the attraction had been made easy by an unusual and beautiful natural environment, he said.

He said visitors would spend an average of two hours enjoying the aquarium "so we really want them to get lost in the journey".

"It's about Oman's rich culture and it is an important trade hub," he said.
