The mandatory mid day break for UAE laborers who work in the sun by the Ministry of Labor will be enforced from June 15, according to a statement released by the Ministry. The ban will be enforced during the peak summer months up to September 15 and would require companies to give laborers working in open areas such as construction sites, a two and a half hour break between 12.30 pm and 3 pm according to the Ministry statement.
UAE has stringent labour laws and practices with the mid-day work ban entering its tenth year of enforcement as a part of the Ministry's commitment toward human and labour rights and ensuring a safe and suitable work environment for the country's laborers. The Ministry has warned of strict penalty for violations up to AED 15,000 and temporary suspension of the company that has been found to violate the ban.
According to the Inspection Department of the Ministry, 18 teams of inspectors are to be constituted and they are likely to conduct around 80,000 visits across work-sites during the midday break period to ensure compliance .Back to all ONSITE Exclusives
