Kuwait partners with Proyapi for a railway project 

The Central Agency for Public Tenders in Kuwait awarded the design contract for the country’s railway project to Turkish engineering and consulting firm Proyapi, marking a significant step in the development of the Kuwait-Saudi Arabia railway. 

This initial phase is set to last for 12 months, after which the tender for the construction phase will be launched. The 111-kilometer Kuwait-Saudi Arabia rail track is expected to be completed in 2030.

Mawarid Turbine Company launches a facility to manufacture wind turbines 

In Oman, Mawarid Turbine Company launched the first phase of a facility to manufacture wind turbines which will have an annual production capacity of up to 1,000 megawatts (MW), producing 6.25MW and 9.6 MW turbines. The investment for the first phase is expected to be over $200 million. The plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2026.

Emirates Biotech appoints Samsung E&A as the contractor for PLA production plant 

In UAE, Emirates Biotech appointed Samsung E&A as the contractor for its Polylactic Acid (PLA) production plant in KEZAD in Abu Dhabi. Samsung E&A will oversee all engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work for the Falcon PLA project, which will produce biodegradable and environmentally friendly plastic alternative. The plant, which will use technology from Sulzer, is scheduled to start operations in early 2028.

BEYOND Developments launches The Mural

BEYOND Developments launched its fourth project The Mural, in Dubai Maritime City. Designed by architectural firm BENOY, the 36-storey tower includes 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments, duplexes, maisonettes, and a penthouse.

The development will comprise a state-of-the-art gym, an infinity pool complex, landscaped terraces, BBQ and dining areas, and a dedicated yoga zone. It will also have a Sky Terrace on level 32, offers Jacuzzis, tanning terraces, and sky dining.

 Aramco and Sinopec partner for major petrochemical expansion

Saudi Aramco, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), and Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refining Company (Yasref) announced the signing of a Venture Framework Agreement (VFA) intended to pave the way for a major petrochemical expansion at Yasref, in Yanbu, on the west coast of Saudi Arabia. 

The agreement seeks to advance engineering studies for the development of a fully-integrated petrochemical complex at Yasref. The project includes a state-of-the-art petrochemical unit, a large-scale mixed feed steam cracker with a 1.8 million tons per year capacity, and a 1.5 million tons per year aromatics complex with associated downstream derivatives integrated into the existing Yasref complex.

Saudi Arabia Railways issues a tender Saudi Landbridge railway network

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) issued a tender for the lead design consultancy services contract for its ambitious Saudi Landbridge railway network. The project involves construction of over 1,500km of new track and is estimated at US$7 Bn. The main component is a 900km new railway between Riyadh and Jeddah, which will provide direct freight access to the capital from King Abdullah Port on the Red Sea.

It also includes upgrading the existing Riyadh-Dammam line, a bypass around the capital, and a link between King Abdullah Port and Yanbu. Interested companies have until 15 May to submit the bid, which covers the conceptual design, as well as preliminary and issued-for-construction (IFC) design options.
